[ChiBounding Log # 5, April 2nd, 2006: Boundin' .mp4 video]
[check it out!: http://www.enlightenment.com/rebound/jordan_boundin.mp4]
Once again, bouncing to David Bowie's Reality. I suppose I'm a creature of habit, but the music always seems new to me, and it always seems to me that I am exploring new energetic material, moving my body in new and different ways, working with breath and awareness as I bounce.
Following the rhythm. Being bounced.
I was told today that "If you film it, they will come." Which re-inspires me to put forth more video rebounding.
Did you see the Incredibles? And the truly delightful "Boundin'" short by the obviously very talented Bud Luckey, that goes with it? It inspired me to shoot what's in this link... (Make sure you turn your sound on!)
Now, this was shot 2 years or so ago, so some things in my practice and form, etc., have changed, but nonetheless, it will give you a bit of an idea! (Also, you'll note that that's a spring-based rebounder I'm on, not one of the newer and seriously improved string-based rebounders, or string-bounders.)
It's in .mp4 format, and it's http://www.enlightenment.com/rebound/jordan_boundin.mp4
And I take to hear the advice from the Great American Jackalope:
"Now sometimes you're up
And sometimes you're down
When you find that you're down
Well, just look around
You've still got a body
Good legs and fine feet
Get your head in the right place
And hey you're complete.
Now as for the dancin'
You can do more
You can reach great heights
In fact you can soar
You just get a leg up
And you slap it on down
And you'll find you're up
In what's called the
bound bound bound
and rebound."

Help

man, at first i thought “you gotta be kidding me.” but i found it relaxing just watching you going up and down. then i was reminded that we used to do some sort of bouncing in Aikido.
so yeah, i think i can relate to what you're doing. so keep on bouncing my friend. but you really need to do something about that soundtrack. lol :-)

Oh, you didn’t like the sound track? I thought it was cute, and totall appropriate.
In any case, I normally bounce to music with a much heavier beat, e.g., David Bowie stuff.
And as for whether I was ever kidding … no, I’m not. I really believe there is no better integral practice in terms of safety, ease of learning, and reproducible results. People in their 40’s (me) and beyond can easily bounce and safely get tremendous aerobic, lymph/immune, and strength benefits. If you get your hands on a good rebounder, give it a go…
i say David Bowie still rocks!
“If you get your hands on a good rebounder, give it a go…”
i thought of it, but i live in a crampy place. if i start bouncing like that, my ceilings will be full of cracks, not to mention my head too.

Even with your helmet?
Bowie is a total God. Sometimes I think he actually is in my head, directing my life for the past 25 years…
great idea about the helmet! but alas, that will also not work. because my top-floor neighboor would probably shoot me in the head. and i'm not bullet-proof :-(
You know, it is possible to control how high you bounce when you are indoors, and then, when you are outdoors, if you live in a place that ever has good enough weather and there is a place nearby, you can really let loose. It’s actually possible to get a really good workout without your feet leaving the mat much if iat all. (Just thought you’d want to know!)
good point. thanks for the tips. will try this when i get a higher ceiling and a place with less cranky neighbors. but i live in Seattle so there goes the good enough weather thing :)
P.S. i like to see you do more bouncing and stuff but i think it's cool if you can upload your videos to YouTube.com so more people can see them. that is if you like the idea.
if i can upload my crap there…. you get the idea :)
